OSU memorial service set

Tribute to basketball coaches

Oklahoma State University will pay tribute to women's basketball head coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna during a memorial service at 1 p.m. Monday in Gallagher-Iba Arena, according to a university official.

Budke and Serna as well as Olin and Paula Branstetter were killed Thursday afternoon when a 1964-model Piper plane crashed near Perryville, Ark., during a recruitment trip. The university announced the news Friday morning during a press conference in which OSU President Burns Hargis called the event "devastating."

"It's our worst nightmare," he said.

The accident marks the second time OSU athletics has experienced such tragedy in less than 11 years. Ten members of the Cowboys basketball travel party died in a plane crash on Jan. 27, 2001, while returning from a game in Colorado.
