Blog: Christmastime and movie marathons

CHICKASHA — I absolutely love Christmas time and I love watching movies. Together, they are the perfect combination. Don't forget the hot chocolate and extra marshmallows. I have three favorite Christmas movies that have been made in the last 10 years, and they are Love Actually, Elf and The Holiday.

LOVE ACTUALLY (2003):

Love Actually is one of my favorite movies during the holiday season. It contains about a dozen loves stories tangled into one. The movie is written and directed by Richard Curtis, the same man who wrote Notting Hill and Bridget Jones's Diary. The cast is full of charming british characters and it's a delight to see all the stories unfold.

Best Line for Love Actually:

--"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. OFten, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husband and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends…I've got a sneaking suspicion.. love actually is all around."

ELF (2003):

I have probably seen the movie Elf a thousand times. Will Ferrell is gold in this PG-comedy about a human who is raised by an elf. This is one of those rare Christmas movies that has heart and is very charming. Elf reminds me not to be cynical.

Best Lines from Elf:

--"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup."

--"I passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then I walked through….the Lincoln Tunnel."

--"I'm sorry I ruined your lives, and crammed eleven cookies into the VCR."

Chickasha has a big city problem.
It'd be hard to dispute that stray animals roam the town's streets in droves. They occupy neighborhoods, school yards, business locations, basically anywhere they might find some nosh.

Staples announced they're closing 225 stores this week, but no one seems to have any idea what the Chickasha's location fate will be.
Actually, let me rephrase. No one wants to discuss it.

    I love today.
Every year, I have a quiet evening at home with a healthy meal, some wine and a screening of a film that touts true patriotism.
Today is the day that shall never be forgot. It's the fifth of November.

  • BLOG: National media distorting real issues in Duncan tragedy

So I was putting the final touches on the weekend edition of the paper while listening to CNN, when my blood pressure began to sky rocket.

Literally minutes after the Stephens County District Attorney - and our district attorney for that matter - Jason Hicks sent out a release detailing why the murder of Australian baseball player Chris Lane was not a hate crime, but old CNN decided that wasn't good for ratings.
