Alvin & Betty Nowlin of Anadarko will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with an open reception from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 31. The reception will be held at the First United Methodist Church Landes Center at 202 West Oklahoma in Anadarko. The reception will be hosted by their children Jeanne and James Darnell of Carrollton, Texas, Bruce Nowlin and Maggie Jones of Lake Crystal, Minn., David and Tracy Nowlin of Anadarko, and Janice and Donnie Hollar of Arlington, Va.
On April 3, 1942 Alvin Nowlin of Rocky and Betty Kinder of Cordell were married in the Methodist Parsonage in Charleston, SC while Alvin was serving in the U.S. Army 8th Air Force during World War II. Alvin served in England while Betty worked back home in the Washita County Clerk’s Office in Cordell.
After the war, Alvin attended Oklahoma A&M and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Agriculture. Alvin was the Vocational Agriculture Instructor at Blanchard from 1949-1959 and at Minco from 1959-1969. Alvin and Betty moved to Fort Cobb in 1969 where Alvin worked at the Caddo-Kiowa Vo Tech Center. Betty worked in the Grady County Clerk’s Office while living in Minco and then in the Caddo County Clerk’s Office while living in Fort Cobb. They both retired in 1985.
