On May 30, 2012, Harly and Janice Day will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. The couple met at the U.S.O. in Norman when Janice was a student at OU and Harly was a sailor stationed at N.A.T.T.C. in Norman in 1943.
On May 30, 1947, they exchanged wedding vows in the First Baptist Church in Norman, with Rev. Edgar Hallock officiating.
Their family includes two sons, Brian Day and Lance Day, both of Midwest City; grandchildren, Zach Day of Brighton, Colo., Lori and the late Steve Owens of Midwest City and Erik and wife Sabrina Day of Moore, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Harly and Janice moved to Chickasha in August 1950, when Harly was hired as Chickasha High School basketball coach. He coached nine years before becoming CHS principal for 19 years.
He retired from the Oklahoma State Department of Education in 1986. He came to USAO as Assistant Director of Student Services and retired in July 2010 after 23 years.
Mrs. Day, also a retired educator, taught kindergarten classes for 22 years – 15 of which were in Chickasha’s Grand and West schools.
The Days are active members of First Baptist Church Chickasha, Grady County Retired Educators Association and the OU Alumni Club.
Mr. Day is an active member of Kiwanis (over 50 years) and a past member of Barbershoppers.
Mrs. Day is an active member of Kappa Kappa Iota and the cancer support group of Chickasha.
